Beijing Daxing International Airport
Project Background
Large international airports are characterized by extensive building areas, multiple functional zones, concentrated passenger flows, complex MEP systems, and continuous long-term operation. These characteristics place high requirements on the stability, installation efficiency, and long-term maintenance of building piping systems.
Beijing Daxing International Airport covers a total area of approximately 780,000 square meters. As a major international aviation hub, it includes passenger service areas, commercial spaces, offices, equipment areas, and various other functional zones. Its piping network covers a wide area with numerous branches and must support the high-intensity operating environment of a large public building over the long term.
For a major transportation hub of this scale, a large proportion of the piping is installed within pipe shafts, ceilings, equipment areas, and other concealed spaces. Once the airport begins operation, any piping problem may be difficult to repair and could affect a wide range of areas. Product quality, connection reliability, and long-term system durability are therefore especially important during the initial project stage.
Key Project Requirements and Challenges
Large Building Scale and Extensive Piping Coverage
Large airports contain numerous functional areas, with long piping distances and complex branch networks. The system therefore requires strong overall coordination and reliable long-term operation.
Continuous Long-Term Operation Requires High System Reliability
Airports are important public infrastructure facilities that operate continuously over long periods. Any failure in the piping system may affect the normal operation of related areas, placing higher requirements on pipe quality and connection stability.
Complex MEP Systems Require Extensive Construction Coordination
Airport projects involve water supply and drainage, fire protection, HVAC, electrical systems, and extensive equipment piping. With significant multi-trade coordination requirements, the piping system needs to combine standardized installation, construction efficiency, and adaptability to complex on-site spaces.
Different Main and Branch Pipe Sizes Require Integrated Connections
Large public building projects typically include main pipelines and branch lines of different sizes. Suitable connection methods need to be selected according to pipe diameter and installation location to create a complete and coordinated piping network across different areas.
Franta Solution
Based on the application requirements of Beijing Daxing International Airport as a large public building, the project adopted Franta S304 stainless steel piping products with a combination of double press-fit and grooved connections to meet piping installation requirements across different pipe diameters and building areas.
S304 Stainless Steel Piping System
The project uses S304 stainless steel pipes, providing corrosion resistance, pipe strength, and long-term stability to create a reliable piping foundation for this large transportation hub.
Double Press-Fit Connections for Small- and Medium-Diameter Pipes
Small- and medium-diameter pipelines use double press-fit connections installed with standardized tools and matching fittings. This helps reduce complex on-site connection procedures and better accommodates the large number of branch lines and connection points within the airport project.
Grooved Connections for Larger-Diameter Pipes
Larger-diameter main pipelines and corresponding piping sections use grooved connections in combination with the double press-fit system, creating an integrated connection solution for pipes of different sizes.
Integrated Products and Project Services
Stainless steel pipes, press-fit fittings, grooved fittings, and related piping products are supplied as an integrated system. Combined with product supply, technical coordination, and installation support, this provides support for successful implementation of the project piping system.
Project Value
Stable and Durable
The S304 stainless steel piping system supports the long-term and continuous operating requirements of large public buildings.
Reliable Connections
Double press-fit and grooved connections are matched to different pipe sizes and installation locations, creating a more complete system connection solution.
Efficient Installation
Standardized connection methods help reduce complex on-site procedures and better accommodate the multi-trade construction environment of a large international airport.
System Adaptability
By combining different connection methods, the piping system can meet configuration requirements for main pipelines, branch lines, and different functional areas throughout the transportation hub.
