However, due to four major issues—leakage, cracking, contamination, and toxicity—they have increasingly come under public concern and rejection; as a result, people are continually seeking piping solutions that are healthier, more environmentally friendly, and safer.

In the last century, galvanized steel pipes long dominated the market; however, they are susceptible to corrosion. Over time, the pipes rust, leading to secondary water contamination and a host of problems, such as yellow‑water discoloration, scale buildup, and bacterial proliferation—issues that seriously compromise public health. Due to this corrosion, galvanized steel pipes typically have a service life of only 8 to 12 years, and frequent leaks requiring costly repairs further add to the inconvenience. On June 1, 2001, the Ministry of Construction and three other government agencies jointly issued a notice prohibiting the use of galvanized pipes in newly constructed urban buildings.
